NomadiX: Art, Community and Environment in Kompong Cham

On 13 December 2024, NomadiX invites residents and travelers to a one-of-its-kind event mixing exhibition, panel discussion and art performances by Kuy People, the Bouddhist Social Development Association (BSDA) and Phare Circus, on the grounds of វត្តនគរបាជ័យក្រៅ Wat Nokor Bay Chey.

Getting ready...

Nomadix, a roving art tour initiatives allowing artists to engage with students in the provinces of Cambodia, closes an intense year 2024 with this Kompong Cham event.

The founders of the all-women art collective tiSamjort, Neak Sophal, Sao Sreymao and Mech Sereyroath, joined with Kompong Cham artist Prak Dalin, will be there firstly to display a selection of artworks crafted by students during workshops held across three Mekong provinces last June and September, as well as artworks of local artists and tiSamjort artists.

It is also the occasion for the attending public to interact with the artworks, fostering connections between local communities and the broader arts, tourism, and cultural sectors. Alongside exhibitions and panel discussion, performances by Kuy People, BSDA and Phare Circus will add to the cultural richness.

The "Art, Community and Environment" event is organized by tiSamjort, NGO Forum on Cambodia (NGOF) and Anicca Foundation, with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Commenting on the initiative, Marina Pok, head of Anicca Foundation, remarked that "Nomadix, launched in the midst of the global pandemic, has faced new challenges in the last period. In 2023 and 2024 we have encountered heavy rains due to climate change, the Mekong River was uncommonly high in certain areas, in particular in Stung Treng. Nevertheless, the artists have gained a solid experience in interacting with communities, working in the villages. It is not always easy but school and pagoda communities get exposed to art, we’re bringing them a sense of joy and hope in these difficult times."
